CURBOROUGH SPRINT COURSE Situated just of the A38 near Stafford, many people are unaware of Curborough, yet for many years, it has been the home of sprinting in the midlands. Operated by Shenstone and District Car Club, there is a sprint meeting almost every weekend throughout the Spring, Summer and Autumn. It was originally just 900 yards, and consisted of what could loosely be described as a hairgrip shape, starting on the wiggly bits and ending with the straight.
My last visit was to a 2004 meeting, aptly organised by the Nottingham Sports Car Club, my old club. Apt because the NSCC only moved into using Curborough at my suggestion at a time when their racing future was looking grim and I was the only NSCC member competing in the AMMC Sprint Championship. Immediatetly before I left the UK, I was competition secretary for the NSCC and we had built up the NSCC Sprint Championship to be a respected series with strong competitor support. |
