CLASSIC RACING A MARCOS VOLVO 3 LITRE

New Zealand boasts just a handful of these British GT cars and my 1970 Marcos Volvo 3 litre is one of only two with that power unit in the country. I am not aware of any cars of the earlier body shape, but there are 3 V8's known, the latest to arrive was May 2008, and is a very special car with a great history...  We will be promoting a 50th anniversary race meeting and a display to celebrate Marcos at the brand new Hampton Downs racetrack, November 29th 2009

Both have been raced at some stage and my own has been a regular classic road/race car since I purchased it in 1991.  It was restored (chassis and body) in 1993/1994 and has had a hard race life since.  Cars are there to be used...  Unfortunately, a couple of race accidents - not my fault, honest, have resulted in major body damage and the car is now in dire need of another body restoration. It was originally yellow and is shown below alongside the only other Volvo engined car in NZ.

MARCOS CARS

Since the first Marcos in 1959, the cars have been raced quite successfully, and Sir Jackie Stewart's first race car was successfully campaigned by Marcos founder, Jem Marsh, in historic races for several years.  Known as the "Ugly Duckling" for obvious reasons, the Marcos shape then improved rapidly via the Luton Gullwing, the Marcos GT and then on to the modern V8s and racers, still showing signs of their heritage.

Although I do have hundreds of pictures of my own car, before during and after restoration, pre digital pics have to be scanned and even early scans were at a low resolution, so now need redoing as storage capacity has improved on discs and even on the websites.
